Customer Gateway
A Customer Gateway represents your on-premises router or gateway inside the platform. It is the reference the platform uses to set up a site-to-site connection between your physical network and a VNet.
What it holds
A Customer Gateway is a small record describing your equipment:
- Name: how you identify the gateway.
- Description: optional notes about it.
- Router used: the on-premises device the gateway represents.
It also tracks the subnets on your side that take part in the connection.
How it is used
A Customer Gateway is the on-premises endpoint for a site-to-site VPN. When you set up an IPsec tunnel or a Direct Connect link, the gateway tells the platform which physical network and subnets to route to.
You create one Customer Gateway per on-premises site you want to connect, then reference it when configuring the VPN or Direct Connect.
